Squeeze in a Family Holiday Before the Kids Go Back to School

It's that time of year when parents look at the calendar and a bit of shock grips them! Summer is fleeting! The back to school offers are in the shops. And you haven't had a chance to get away for a family holiday!

Don't panic! There is still time to pack your bags and enjoy a fantastic getaway together. All over the UK opportunities await for a family-friendly trip that will be the highlight of summer. And don't worry about lodging, because last minute hotel deals can be found offering excellent accommodation at the right price. So gather the kids around and have a good row, uh, we mean, discussion, about where to go and what to do! Here are a few suggestions.

The tried and true choice is London. Kid's Week is on in the West End, with discount tickets available to more than two dozen shows. Favorites include The Lion King, Billy Elliot, Sister Act, and Peter Pan. Interactive workshops and behind-the-scenes opportunities expand the experience. And while in the city, enjoy the weekly festivals, grand shopping, tours, and food from gourmet to low-brow, that make London the world class city it is! Great last minute hotels will put you in walking distance of all the action.

Perhaps the city isn't your thing, and you all need some fresh air. Here's a corny idea! Why not tour a dozen or so of the maize mazes cropping up in every corner of the U.K.! Get lost among giant roosters, astronauts, and butterflies. Each location features extras like farm-fresh baked goods and vegetables, rides for the kids, and tours of the working farms. North, south, east or west, find last minute hotel deals as you plan your walk among the stalks!

Still not ready to book your last minute hotels and go? Then perhaps one of the usual suspects will catch the family's fancy. Longleat offers one of the top African Safari parks in the world. Your kids will love it when the cheeky monkeys climb atop the car and rip off the antenna! If feeling fishy, The Deep offers Europe's deepest aquarium, where sharks and jellyfish gallivant amidst the gorgeous sea plants.

Not tempted by land or sea? Travel back in time to the Viking city of Jorvik in York, or see what the world might look like in the future, at the Eden Project, in Cornwall, where the Summer Survival Challenge is in full swing. Loads of family fun can be found in the neighborhood of all of these attractions, and plenty of rooms are available and affordable with last minute hotel deals. Start packing, find someone to water the plants, and make some memorable moments with the whole gang!

What Are Thailand's Main Tourist Attractions and Activities?

Bangkok

Most people spend a few days in the Thai capital, but many find the pollution, traffic congestion and chaotic street life extremely wearing. There's plenty to take you off the street, however, including the glittering Grand Palace compound and its beautiful gigantic Reclining Buddha; the comprehensively stocked National Museum; the massive Chatuchak weekend market; with over eight thousand different nightlife that suns the full range from cutting-edge clubs to depressing strip joints.

Beaches

Thailand's beaches are among the world's best. You'll find the most developed and expensive resorts, and some of the finest sands, on the islands of Ko Samui and Phuket, while backpakers tend to head for the more budget oriented Ko Pha Ngan, Ko Tao, Ko Lanta and Ko Mook. Krabi's Railay beaches are nothing short of stunning, Ko Samet makes and easy and economical break from Bangkok and Ko Chang is handy for travelers heading in and out of Cambodia.

Trekking

Unlike the organized treks in the Himalayas, Thailand's "hill-tribe treks" focus on the ethnic-minority villages that you walk to, rather than on the walking itself or the scenery. The hill tribes live way out in the sticks, but their villages are connected by tracks, so the hiking is not difficult. Most treks last two to four days and feature nights in the villages, as well as an elephant ride and river rafting. The main trekking centres are the northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, but routes out of both are hugely over subscribed, so it's better to start from Mae Hing Sin, Pai, Kanchanaburi or Umphang instead, where trails are quieter and more rewarding.

The ruined former capitals of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya

Dating from the thirteen century, Sukhothai is a beautiful example og thoughtful city planning enlivened by lakes and elegant statues of the Buddha. The 300-year-old temples and palaces of Ayutthaya display a refined mix of Hindu and Buddhist sculpture and are fun to explore by bicycle. Both sets of ruins are now conserved as historical parks. There are plenty of sobering World War II sights in the town, as well as reasonable range of trekking, rafting and cycle options that make the most or the fine river scenery, plus some appealing rafthouse accommodation too.

Kanchanaburi

Sited on the banks of the River Kwai, the town is most famous for its role as a POW camp in World War II and for its bridge, whose destruction by the Allied Forces was immortalized in Davis Lean's movie. There are plenty of sobering World War II sights in the town, as well as a reasonable range of trekking, rafting and cycling options that make the most of the fine river scenery, plus some appealing rafthouse accommodation too

Khao Sok National Park

Here you can sleep in a tree house under limestone karst, wake to the sound ogf the hooting gibbons, and take an adventure tour via waterlogged caves and jungles trails to a lake

The ancient Khmer temple of Phanom Rung

This exquisite pink sandstone complex was built in the tenth century as a blueprint for the Angkor temples across the border in Cambodia

Thai massage

Enjoy a traditional massage at Bangkok's Wat Pho temple, then learn the techniques yourself at a course in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Snorkelling and diving off the remote Similan Island

The turquoise water, powdery sands and banks of coral are regularly visited by sharks, rays and turtles

The Mae Hong Song loop

Hire a motor bike and spend as many days as you can spare on the circular 600-kilometre route through the glorious upland scenery of the remote northwest

Kayaking along the Krabi coastline

An exhilarating way of exploring the spectacularly craggy outcrops and remote uninhabited islands of the south west-coast

Sang Khom

It's great to just chill out in this idyllis tree-shaded little town on the Mekong river, where you can hire bicycles to visit traditional local villages and mess about on the water in inner tubes and dugout canoes

Pai

This laid back north-Thai town has a distinct New Age air and is the perfect place to take some courses in alternative therapies, browse the art shops and arrange a trek.

Full-moon beach party

Join the hordes for the monthly full-moon parties on Ko Pha Ngan, an infamous back-packers' beach rave attracts up to 30,000 clubbers.

Bangkok Temples

Bangkok is a fascinating and unique travel destination and the Bangkok temples are a major reason for this. Any travelers visiting the Thai capital should definitely visit at least one or two temples. The architecture of these temples is just stunning and all the gold and colored glass which you will find at the temples in Bangkok will allow for wonderful photo opportunities.

If you would like to visit some of the beautiful Bangkok temples then please note that the best time to visit these temples is in the morning as it will not be too hot and the temples will be less crowded. Temples in Thailand open their doors very early in the morning and generally close for the public in the late hours of the afternoon.

Travelers who are interested in visiting some of the magnificent temples in Bangkok can ask their hotel concierge to organize a tour which includes visits to several temples. You should also be aware that there are big differences between the various different Bangkok temples so please do not think that if you visit one then you have seen them all.

Information on the most famous and popular temples in Bangkok can be found below. Be sure to visit some of these outstanding temples during your next stay in the capital city of Thailand.

Wat Arun

The Wat Arun in Bangkok is also known as the temple of dawn. This beautiful Bangkok temple is located along the west bank coast of the Chao Phraya River.  Wat Arun is open daily for visitors from 08:00 until 17:00.

Wat Phra Kaew

Wat Phra Kaew is also known as the temple of the emerald Buddha. Many Thai people consider this Bangkok temple to be the most important temple of Thailand. Wat Phra Kaew is located on the same grounds at the Bangkok Grand Palace and is open to the public between 08:30 and 12:00 and from 13:00 until 15:30.

Wat Pho

Another name of Wat Pho is the temple of the reclining Buddha due to the large statue of a reclining Buddha which is located at this temple in Bangkok. The reclining Buddha statue is nearly fifty meters in length and is covered in gold leave. Wat Pho is also famous for another reason and which is its legendary massage school in which they train blind people to become experts in the art of Thai massage. Opening hours of this Bangkok temple is daily from 08:00 until 17:00.

Product Design of a Travel Agency

Role of a travel agency is to perform as an intermediary between the producers and consumers of tourism services. Suppliers in tourism industry such as airlines, tourist transport operators, tour operators, hotels etc work with travel agency for distribution of their services. Tourists also avail the services of travel agency for buying the services of the major suppliers. This does not mean that the travel agencies follow the strategies of the principal suppliers for marketing purposes. They have to chalk out their own strategy for promoting themselves.

Travel agencies make effort to add value to the products/services of the major suppliers. They go for their own market research to set the target market. They have to decide on discounts or service charges and finalise their product mix as well as sales and promotional strategies.

Understanding the Market
A travel agency has to take decision which market segment to target. The prospective market needs to be properly segmented. This segmentation could be done on the basis of the motive of travel or their budget. Timing of the travel decisions or services required by the customers could also be the base of segmentation. A customer could require services like tour packages, travel consultancy, ticket booking, handle travel documents (visa, passports etc), airport transfers, hotel bookings etc.

Product Design
Travel agency business is more or less confined to sole proprietorship or partnership firms. Majority of businesses are of small level. A travel agency has to decide on the target market, determine on customer requirements and generate ideas to develop the product. One also has to do the business analysis considering costs, estimate future sales, and profit potential.

A travel agency could have product oriented or market oriented approach in the business. It could emphasise on products and services of tourism supply, disregarding customer needs. However, in a multi-player market, this approach will not work. A market oriented approach would always be better for an agency. It must look at the customer needs and accordingly design its products. Market survey has to be conducted to understand the customer needs and get information about the practices of other agencies. Only when a manager knows about market needs, he can take a decision on the product design of the company. For example, services provided to walk-in customers could be different than those offered to repeat customers.

Travel to San Antonio This Weekend! We'll Tell You Why and How

Riverwalk

At the heart of the city lies the Riverwalk district. Take the stairs from the street level down to the Riverwalk, where a lush, shady refuge awaits. There the San Antonio River is lined on both sides with pedestrian walkways that are closed to bicycles and motor vehicles. Hotels and shops line the Riverwalk and delicious scents emanating from restaurants beckon to passersby. Many of the buildings have entrances on both the street level and the Riverwalk level. Visitors can take relaxing river cruises and some restaurants offer lunch and dinner cruises.

Alamo

A short walk from the Riverwalk is the famed Alamo, 300 Alamo Plaza, which stands as a testament to American courage. On March 6, 1836 the 189 men defending the Alamo fell to the Mexican troops of General Santa Ana after a 13 day siege. Today the only two buildings left standing of the original fort are the chapel and the long barracks. Take a free guided tour of the grounds, then visit the Long Barracks Museum and Library to learn more about the fort from the displays there.

La Villita

Adjacent to the Riverwalk is La Villita, a collection of restaurants, arts and crafts stores and other shops. Wander among the shops featuring a variety of works such as glass figurines, original paintings and pottery.

Shop at Market Square

Another popular shopping district is the Market Square, 514 W. Commerce, designed to look like an authentic market in Mexico. Here you'll find pewter and enamel bracelets, bright porcelain wall crosses, clothing and more. There are additional shops located across the road at Farmers Market Square.

Churches?

San Antonio is famous for its beautiful mission churches along the San Antonio River. In the 18th century Spain built the missions as part of its effort to convert the area's Native Americans to Catholicism. In addition to the Mission San Antonio de Valero at the Alamo, visitors can tour Mission Concepción, Mission San Francisco de la Espada, Mission San José and Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Culture

If you're itching for a dose of culture, the San Antonio Museum of Art, 200 W Jones, is the place to go. The museum houses a fine collection of European, Asian, Latin American and ancient art.

And the Zoo!

Finally, on a pleasant day you can visit the San Antonio Zoo, 3903 N. St. Mary's St., which includes the usual mix of monkeys and zebras as well as a butterfly garden, an area for the preschool crowd and a wonderful collection of unique birds.

Let's Go Cruisin'

Improvements and upgrades in cruise ships over the past ten years, and the addition of many new destinations and itineraries, have made cruise vacations one of the easiest and most affordable ways to see the world. It beats driving across the country, and with the ability to hop from island to island, hot port to hot port, cruise ships open up a whole new realm of travel that is not available via land transportation. But the seemingly endless amounts of information on the Internet and the complex list of choices for destinations, ships, vacation packages and cruise lines can make planning your cruise an overwhelming endeavor. Here are some basic tips to help manage your cruise vacation plans and find the cruise that is just right for you.

Who's Cruisin'?

Many of the details for your cruise will depend on who is going with you. Is it a family trip with young children? Is it a romantic vacation with your significant other? Maybe it's a Girls Only getaway. Each of these groups likely describe the perfect cruise differently, with kids needing lots of play and water activities to keep them busy, lovers preferring privacy and low-key surroundings, and friends usually wanting excitement, parties, and chances to socialize. Once you determine who's cruising with you, you can make the next step.

With your travel companions selected, you next need to decide what kind of ship you prefer, where you want to leave from, where you want to go, and how long you want to be gone. From here on out, there is really no ideal order to complete these steps. My suggestion is that you start with the one that's easiest to decide. Usually that is the length of the trip. Most people have a set amount of time they can be gone from work and home. Typically, cruise lengths start at three nights and run anywhere from seven to 14 or more days. Pick what works best for you.

Your Destination

When it comes to destinations, most people have an idea of the area they want to visit. Some have had their hearts set on a larger than life Alaskan cruise. Others prefer the spicy offerings of the Caribbean. Maybe sultry South America is your preference, or your going to go big and shoot for a transatlantic destination. If you have an inkling of what part of the world you want to see, you can visit cruise lines on the Web and find out more about those locations, who goes where, and what there is to see.

Celebrity Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruise Line and the other larger name operations have a wealth of information as well as features to help you plan your cruise online. They also have cruise representatives available to assist you via telephone, and your travel consolidator of choice also has access to cruise information. The websites and travel consolidators can also provide information on what type of documentation is needed for each destination, tourist activities and sights to see, and other travel considerations that might affect your decision.

Your Port of Departure

For some people, the point of departure is not a negotiable option. Maybe you live in New York, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, or one of the other more popular cruise ship home ports. It probably doesn't make sense to drive across the country when you have a port of departure right in your backyard. Typically, the port of departure determines the general choice of destinations. If you are set in you choice of ports, start there and see what is available to you.

If you are not near a port of departure or have flexibility in that area, you can choose from locations around the coastal United States. Most cruises leave from a port that is closest to the trip destination, for example Alaskan cruises leave from the Washington area, Caribbean cruises leave from Florida, etc. If you want to go to the Bahamas in January, you will probably need to leave from a port located in the southern part of the U.S.

But you can have some fun with this if you have a little extra time. Maybe you decide to make your vacation part road trip and explore along the way to your port of departure. Maybe you choose a city that you have always wanted to see and fly in a few days ahead of time to spend some time sightseeing. Perhaps your decision will be based on more practical matters, such as a relative who lives in New York City and will let you stay there instead of renting a motel. Airfare can also affect your choice of departure ports. Some cities are notoriously expensive for flights at certain times of the year. And others may not have service from your area. When you consider all these factors, choosing your port of departure becomes fairly simple.

Your Ship

They features and amenities available on today's cruise ships are simply amazing. From spacious suites to five star restaurants and complete spa facilities, you can find all the comforts of home and often chose from more goodies than at a hotel or resort. Some people are particular about the type of ship or the cruise line they choose. If you have specific companies or ships in mind, that is the obvious place to start in narrowing down your research and planning.

Some ships clearly have the gung-ho, sports enthusiast, I-want-to-do-it-all traveler in mind. They have rock-climbing walls, workout areas, and a multitude of other active type options. They have activities that appeal to younger, single, couples or groups. While other ships are geared toward families and include kiddie pools, free meals for kids under a certain age, and a host of activities geared toward tots, teens and families. Some cruise ships have a more elegant or romantic atmosphere. There is ballroom dancing, Jacuzzi tubs in the suites, and luxurious spas. Again, what you decide will likely be determined by who travels with you.

Land Activities

One other area of your vacation planning that can be handled on line is the scheduling of off ship activities and tours. The sights and services available at a port of call are often some of the main reasons we pick a particular destination or cruise line. Some cruise packages include certain land activities or are scheduled by your cruise director. And you can make arrangements for activities once you reach a port of call. But with limited time ashore, it makes sense to scout out what is available, locate car rentals, tour guides, etc. and make a tentative plan. At many cruise destinations, it is not unusual for mopeds to be completely rented out or tours to be booked full on the days that ships come into port. Many of these arrangements can be made and reserved ahead of time, saving you time and hassle when you get on land. You are probably going to have to make some choices because there won't be time to do everything. Planning ahead will help ensure that you get to do the things that are most important to you.

Part of what makes cruises so fun is the amazing number of options available to vacation travelers. By considering a few key aspects of your vacation needs, you can devise an organized plan for managing the information and arranging the cruise vacation of your dreams

What About a Different Type of Family Vacation This Year?

Do you take a family vacation each year? What do you usually do? Go to the beach? Rent a cottage? Go to Florida?

What about something a little different. What about taking a Family Learning Vacation?

Take a vacation where you all learn a skill like scuba diving or skiing?

What about a vacation where your kids will learn about a new culture - maybe a culture they learned in school?

Do your kids love dinosaurs? Take them on a dig for fossils in the American badlands or Alberta Canada.

Whatever you choose it can be a very rewarding experience for you and your kids. Imagine the family bonding as you learn about something together?

I know...I can hear your kids now - I don't want to learn! I want to have fun! I learn at school why would I want to do it on vacation? This is why it is important to keep the following points in mind while planning your learning vacation.

  1. Make sure you plan a balance between fun and learning - remember you are on vacation - it should be fun!

  2. Make sure the whole family is interested in the activities, destinations and experiences.

  3. Before you go, show the kids where they are going. This will get them excited about the holiday. Rent movies or read books about the destination or experience.

  4. Take your kids on a sample activity before you go to make sure everyone will enjoy it. For example go to the museum or take a sample scuba diving class.

  5. Keep your expectations in check - not all kids will love what you plan - so don't get your hopes up or expect your kids to love it, you may be disappointed.

  6. Learning may come from simple places, like interacting with locals, or eating local food.

  7. Look to experts for advice or ideas - look for tour operators that offer these types of holidays for inspiration or to organize your vacation

  8. Be creative or do it yourself, look for learning opportunities everywhere. Who knows what your kids can learn, even on a drive to Grandma's house. Are there places you can stop so your kids have the chance to learn?

Make your next vacation something a little different. Do some research, see what is out there.

If a learning vacation doesn't fit with your plans, what about a themed vacation - Are you kids big fans of Harry Potter or Twilight? What about a movie location tour.

Patong Remains Phuket's Most Popular Beach Spot

Phuket is one of Thailand's top tourist destinations. Every year, thousands of tourists flock to the white isle in search of sun, sea and a lot more besides. Tourism has taken a lot of knocks in recent years, what with the tsunami and internal problems, but Phuket still manages to attract a decent crowd no matter what. Although numbers are down after the latest spat of political turmoil, Phuket is still the island of choice for most visitors, and no beach seduces tourists quite like Patong Beach.

To look at Patong Beach, you'd wonder just what it is about the place that keeps travelers coming back in their droves. Patong isn't Phuket's most scenic place, but it does have a lot going for it. The beach itself has seen better days. What were once stretches of gorgeous white sand have become overcrowded and inundated with sun loungers and parasols.

The beach is also not as clean as it has been in the past, thanks to the large number of tourists and hawkers. But Patong is about more than just the beach. If you want unspoiled scenery, Mai Khao, Nai Yang and a host of other beach spots are just a short drive away. What Patong Beach has going for it is convenience. Everything you could think of for a holiday is right their on your doorstep.

The variety of accommodation in Patong is unsurpassed anywhere else on the island. Whether you're a backpacker on a shoestring budget or a honeymooner looking for something romantic for you and your loved on, Patong has it all, with no budget left uncatered to.

Then there is Patong's dining scene, which remains more vibrant and chock full of choice than any other part of Phuket. Whatever your preference, be it for pasta, seafood or fajitas, there are enough restaurants in Patong to please even the choosiest of travelers.

You can't, however, talk about Patong Beach without mentioning the nightlife. It's what makes Patong famous, and also very noisy. For a long time, the nightlife in Patong was primarily about go-go bars and beer bars. To a certain extent, this is still the case. Throngs of tourists come with one thing in mind: meeting Thai girls. Romantic, it ain't, but the sex industry in Patong is not likely to disappear any time soon.

Patong has more to offer than just girly bars. Rockers can mosh at Rock City, dancers can boogie away at La Salsa and serious clubbers can get down at Club Lime. There really is something for everyone at Patong Beach.

There are so many Phuket beaches that it can be difficult to choose which one is right for you. There's no doubt that Patong Beach has a lot to offer, but Phuket is large enough that there is no harm in moving about from one place to the next to get a feel for which areas are the best.

Daytona Bike Week and Florida Vacation Attractions

Having a list of must see destinations while in Florida for bike week will appeal to even the most conservative biker. For those that know their way around Florida, they will agree this state has a lot to offer. Florida loves tourist and this sampling of attractions is small compared to the number of cities that have built empires to attract visitors.

Florida has experienced one of the coldest winters in history but compared to the rest of the country we have it easy. Visiting in March and riding a motorcycle will most likely require cold weather attire, including leather jackets, gloves and layered clothing. Of course we hope for the warmth and sunshine but it is recommended to be prepared for the worst.

With Daytona Bike Week right around the corner having a guide to all of the fun and festivities will ensure a good time. The Daytona International Speedway will host motorcycle racing at its finest and Florida is a tourist state, so visiting some of the sites while on Bike Week vacation is recommended.

Touring on a motorcycle is the way to go and Florida is a biker friendly state with establishments catering to motorcyclist sprinkled up and down the highways.

1st Recommendation: Starting from Daytona Beach, head north to Ormond Beach. State Road 40 west is a ride through the Ocala National Forest. This highway takes the traveler all the way to US 41 in Dunnelon. Just north on US 41 on your right is Rainbow State Park. Fresh water springs are common in North Central Florida and this one is a gem. The three hour trip, traveling through the forest and the destination is well worth it.

2nd Recommendation: Just north of Daytona on US 1 is St Augustine. An approximately 50 mile scenic ride that parallels the Atlantic Ocean. The oldest European City in our Nation host a tourist dream. Park your bike and stroll down the historic district with cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, bars, and unique shops. Visit the 16th century Castillo de San Marcos. It tells the story of how Spain defended her rule in Florida with live re-enactments of battles fought.

3rd Recommendation: South on US 1 is Cape Canaveral. The home of the Kennedy Space Center. Visit the International Space Station Center, take the Cape Canaveral: Then & Now Tour, and the Guided Tour - Discover Kennedy Space Center: Today & Tomorrow.

The final recommendation is saved for last - Key West Florida.

This approximately six hour ride is better planned with an overnight stay in one of the southern most points hostels. Once there plan your evening around dinner at the Hogs Breath and don't forget the tee shirt. Before you leave, a picture standing next to the marker at the southern most point of the United States is a must.

On your way back stop at the Homestead-Miami International Speedway and see where NASCAR host the final race of the year.

While in our "My Helmet My Choice" state ride safe, obey the law and Ride On.

Saddlebags packed with sunscreen, biker jacket, biker vest, motorcycle chaps, rain suit and tool bag, are the answers for a long tour needed for all weather. The right motorcycle clothes at http://cool-riders.com speaks loud and clear that this rider has what it takes to be in control.
